5 Unusual Items in a Wedding Planner's Bag of Tricks

5 Unusual Items in a Wedding Planner's Bag of Tricks

It's no secret that wedding planners serve as a jack-of-all trades.

With so many things to coordinate and pull together, we require an interesting and unusual set of tools to get the job done. Here are 5 of the most unusual items we keep in our wedding planner bag of tricks.

  1. Bolt cutters

We hang temporary chandeliers, lighting, ribbon hoops - you name it. Sometimes this requires the use of chain to secure hanging items - hence these powerful snippers. bolt_cutter_72dpi

  2. 16 Ft Extension Ladders

We're not talking your 8 ft garage ladder for changing the batteries in your smoke detector. These babies can reach the tops of those beautiful vaulted ceiling venues that are begging for lighting, lanterns, draping, etc.
Pro Tip: Just don't look down.

  3. Plywood

Some of our beach house venues have pool tables right in the middle of our prime event space. Instead of losing this space (or breaking backs attempting to move them), we cover them with a plywood topper, linens, décor and voilà - instant usable table space!

  4. Fishing Line

While providing strength and flexibility, fishing line invisibly attaches decor items so it doesn't distract from the aesthetic.

  5. Safety Pins (in every size imaginable)

These little trinkets can be a wardrobe malfunction lifesaver. Groomsman forget to get his pants hemmed? No worries. Great Grandma's broach won't stay on the bridal bouquet? No sweat. The bridesmaid's zipper broke? We've got you covered.

screen-shot-2016-10-05-at-9-05-17-amWe can certainly attest to the fact that being a wedding planner is not how it appears in the movies, and we don't run around with a headset and heels (sorry JLo). In reality, we can often be seen early on an event day wielding power tools, flowers and an enormous coffee.

It's a crazy and intense job, but we love seeing everything come together and wowing our clients with the transformation of their event space.

I love the idea of using plywood to turn billiard tables into tablespace! This is really smart in general — more people generally should carry some of this around no matter what!

Ha! This is so funny and so true! I used to be a wedding photog and I loved seeing what the planners pulled out of their bag of tricks!

I love the image of the unveiling of these items from a small bag in the style of Mary Poppins. Love these fixes. I need to take your tip and carry around a ton of safety pins. Those babies are life-savers. Thanks for the look inside your bag.
